I could not praise this story more.įive Feet Apart made me laugh, cry, be angry, and want to learn more about cystic fibrosis, which I think is just as important. She gave just enough detail to help me picture scenes and people, but not so much that I couldn’t add my own little vision of things as well. Some of the supporting characters were added humor and added another great aspect to the story.

The story flowed nicely, even though it jumped back and forth between Stella and Will. I love the characters and how Lippincott built them up with so many layers for us to peel back. She built characters that you fell in love with while reading, which makes the possibility of them dying even worse. I don’t know too much about Cystic Fibrosis, but I feel that Lippincott did a great job portraying the struggles that go with that disease. Will is so chill it makes you want to shake him, which is something Stella voices on more than one occasion. Stella is so over the top OCD and controlling it makes me laugh. This story is so unbelievably good I could not put it down. As their relationship grows, the reality of life and death hits them. They can’t touch because they could kill each other, but they can’t help be drawn to one another. Rachael Lippincott, with the help of Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Ianconis, did a fantastic job with this story.įive Feet Apart follows the story of Stella and Will as they fight the good fight of Cystic Fibrosis. Hands down one of the best books I have read in the last few years. What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too? But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Stella Grant likes to be in control-even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life.
